12 May, 2020How to succeed in the hospitality sector? As part of their training, the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management participated in a seminar given by Jorge Mateu Santaeularia, who was the director of the Princesa Sofía Hotel in Barcelona. In the following lines we will reveal the four key factors to success in the hospitality sector, according to Santaeularia.
The 4 key factors to achieve success in hospitality
During the seminar given at EUHT StPOL, Jorge Mateu Santaeularia revealed that his experience has led him to detect four essential factors in order to be successful in the hospitality sector. Are:
- The management of personal change: Defining one’s professional objective and putting passion into achieving it is fundamental to success in the hospitality sector. “99% of the success process is work flat out,” says Santaeularia. And he adds the adaptability and capacity to adapt to different scenarios as a “sine qua non” requirement for any future professional in the hospitality sector.
- Experiential engagement: Having empathy with clients will lead to sympathy towards the professional but also towards the brand or company; and this is the previous step to generating trust. The road to success will then be a little closer.
- The internal innovative culture: Innovation and creativity are a key factor for success in many sectors, and especially in the hospitality sector.
- The differential value: What sets us apart from others is a key factor in standing out and achieving the desired success.
According to Santauelaria, all this is preceded by an indispensable element for any professional in the hospitality sector: attitude and persistence. In fact, he points out: “hospitality is a vocation”, so “without love, passion and vocation you will not achieve your goals”, he concluded.
Personal branding
In addition to the four key factors to success in hospitality, Santaeularia emphasized an element that “must be worked on throughout one’s life”: personal branding. That is to say: What is it that you transmit as a person and as a professional? Values, uniqueness, credibility, emotional connection… are some of the items that come from one’s personal brand.
In fact, the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management participate in the program called Personal Branding: a set of actions distributed throughout the university degree that aims to train professionals in the hospitality sector with the maximum guarantee of achieving professional success.
