Spain settles as a world culinary reference
Spain is well-settled as a world culinary reference
Spanish restaurants grab 16 positions in the world’s Top 100, and yet had up to 20 chefs in total, as the restaurant Disfrutar is led by three cooks, while the Cocina Hermanos Muñoz and Les Cols are led by two each. On the night of ‘The Best Chef Awards 2022,’ held at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, Spanish gastronomy triumphed. One could say that Diverxo’s chef, Dabiz Muñoz, won “at home” this time.
And who is deciding on the award? The jury is made up of 350 voters: 100 chefs who were previously awarded in the 2021 edition, 100 new candidates for the 2022 ranking, and a selection of 150 professionals, including journalists, critics, connoisseurs, photographers, and other specialists.
Dabiz Muñoz and Joan Roca, first and third
Dabiz Muñoz, the owner of the three-Michelin-starred DiverXO restaurant, returns to the top of this ranking.
Joan Roca from El Celler de Can Roca, the winner in 2017 and 2018, comes in third place. Andoni Luis Aduriz of the Mugaritz restaurant takes fifth place, having also received ‘The Best Chef Science Award.’ In sixth place are the Disfrutar chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas.
They are followed by #13 Ángel León, from the Aponiente restaurant, and #18 Eneko Atxa, from the Azurmendi restaurant, both restaurants with three Michelin stars; and #19 Víctor Arguinzoniz, winner of the Spanish National Gastronomy Award.
Within the Top 50 we find #33 Quique Dacosta, #36 Paco Roncero, #38 Diego Guerrero, #41 Javier and Sergio Torres, #42 Martín Berasategui and #43 Paco Morales.
Finally, this classification includes #56 Dani García, #87 Paco Pérez and #96 Martina Puigvert and Fina Puigdevall who enter the list for the first time.
The best chefs in the world at EUHT StPOL
Surely, students from different promotions of EUHT StPOL will remember having shared learning with chefs who are now considered the best in the world. Specifically, 4 of the Top 5 and 12 of the Top 100.
For example, Fina Puigdevall, from Les Cols, and Oriol Castro, a former Bulli employee and one of the three chefs of the Disfrutar restaurant, have given different masterclasses with the students of the Master in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Management.
Also maintaining a connection with EUHT StPOL we have Rene Redzepi, Joan Roca, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Mauro Colagreco, Massimo Bottura, Quique Dacosta and Martin Berasategui. They have presided over previous editions of the Sant Pol de Mar Hotel-School Young Cuisine Contest, and have participated in events that have been held at the EUHT StPOL facilities. In fact, Fina Puigdevall herself presided over this year’s edition of the Contest.
In addition, its restaurants are a destination for our students’ internships.
