Albert Ortiz, xef in his restaurante Axol (Cabrils), was awarded as “Cuiner de l’Any” (Cook of the year) in the context of the Gastronomic Forum (20th-23th October, Barcelona).

Albert Ortiz is the owner of his restaurant Axol, managed with her sister. He claims that proximity/local food and fun are the main Restaurant values.

Albert was a EUHT StPOL student 10 years ago, then he practised in such a famous places like El Bulli, El Celler de Can Roca and Arzak. He likes the classic cooking as a base and then, he likes to add sofisticated touches. He started his carrer in a classic kitchen form his parents Restaurant “Xaret” , also in Cabrils.

Albert likes to take benefit from the current ingredients in ech season, he also uses local ingredients created by local/near distribuitors.

In order to be awarded as “Cook of the year” he needed to be young, and not having in possion too much other awards like this.

This contest was celebrated in the Forum Gastronomic, where Albert and the other finalist had to show how to prepare a dish. The rest candidates were:

Jordi Guillem (Lo Mam), Anna Maria Tengo (Can Major), Guillem Oliva (Monivic) y Miquel Aldana (Tres Macarrons).
