10 March, 2023The EUHT StPOL candidate wins first prize with a cocktail called “Sue” while Ivan Cajaraville and his “Ámbar Guatemalteco” came second, also winning the category for skill and ability. Marcel Suniol, has been awarded the trophy by the tasting jury with his “Sitges Sunset”, and Adrià López’s “Navarrete” has received the award for the best explanation and presentation.
The future of Catalan bartending has come together this Thursday, March 2, at the Hotel-Escola de Sant Pol de Mar with the celebration of the Catalan Young Cocktail Award, which has had the participation of different hospitality schools of Catalonia, each of them represented by a student and their unique cocktails. In total, there were 10 participants who started the competition with a theoretical test before moving on to the demonstration phase, during which they prepared and explained the cocktails in front of the jury of skill. Then, in another room, the tasting jury also evaluated the cocktails according to various parameters.
“Sue”, a cocktail of gin, orange juice and passion fruit foam, has been chosen as the best cocktail of the competition, created by the student of EUHT StPOL’s Technical Degree in Gastronomy and Restaurant Service, Anakin Rivera.
In second place was Iván Cajaraville from the Escola Superior d’Hostaleria de Barcelona with the “Ámbar Guatemalteco”, a combination of amaro and brandy. A cocktail that has also won the Josep M. Gotarda trophy for its skill.
The list of award winners was completed by Marcel Suniol, from the Sitges Hospitality School Institut Joan Ramon Benaprès with his “Sitges Sunset” which received the best score from the tasting jury; and Adrià López from the Center for Hospitality and Tourism Studies CETT who has been awarded the best cocktail explanation.
One of the oldest competitions in Catalonia
The Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia, promoted by the EUHT StPOL, is one of the oldest cocktail competitions in the country. This year it was its 39th edition and counted with the participation of the Hospitality School Institut Joan Ramon Benaprès of Sitges, the School Institut Cavall Bernat, the School of Hospitality of Figueres Institut Olivar Gran, School of Hospitality and Tourism of Barcelona, the Center for Hospitality and Tourism Studies CETT, the Hospitality and Tourism School of Girona, the Escola Superior d’Hostaleria de Barcelona (ESHOB), the Hospitality School of Vallès Oriental Institut Marta Mata, the Escola Institut Bisbe Sivilla de Calella and as hosts, the EUHT StPOL.
