21 October, 2019What image are we conveying? What it says from us the way we dress? How can we transmit a sense of professionalism in the field of hospitality and tourism? These are some of the keys to the professional image seminar taught by Àngels Llimargas and attended by students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The activity is part of the PERSONAL BRANDING project promoted by EUHT StPOL with the aim to train professionals in the hospitality sector with all the guarantees.
“Image is communication.” This core idea has been the starting point of the professional image seminar taught by coach Àngels Llimargas to the first year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University College of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts of Sant Pol de Mar (EUHT StPOL).
According to Llimargas, “the appearance is 70% of the image that we transmit to others”, a figure that denotes the importance of this aspect in the personal and professional field. We also have to add aspects such as verbal and nonverbal language, which together determine the image we project to others. It is part of our personal branding, that is, our footprint, what they will say about us when we are not in front.
Three tips to enhance your professional image in hospitality and tourism industry
Knowing how to manage your personal brand is especially useful in situations such as a job interview, a presentation or conference or in a professional visit, since it will allow you to transmit values such as professionalism, security, trust or differentiation.
Here are three tips to enhance your professional image in hospitality and tourism industry, taken from the seminar given by Àngels Llimargas.
1. Figure out which style is recommended to use in every situation to succeed and convey those values that interest you of your personal brand. The dress code in a job interview or in a celebration with friends is not the same, for example.
2. Investigate what do the colors communicate and which message they convey. A red dress has certain connotations, while wearing rigorous black has others. Choosing the right colors, combining them in an optimal and flattering way and taking into account their meaning in the culture and society in which you interact is essential to transmit a professional image and according to the objectives you pursue.
3. Pay attention to your nonverbal language: how we shake hands, how we walk, how we sit, what is our facial expression… All of this gives a lot of information to the person who is interviewing us or with whom we are interacting.
