1 March, 2022EUHT StPOL has hosted today, Thursday, February 17, the 38th edition of the Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia; a contest in which 9 students from different hotel and restaurant schools have participated with a clear objective: to show who is the best young cocktail maker in Catalonia.
Ofelia Rosa Otalvano and her cocktail “Etéreo” was the winner of the Contest, in which Víctor Romero and his cocktail “ADN Garraf” were also awarded second place. Nelson Calleja, EUHT StPOL student , has been awarded the trophy for the cocktail with the best score by the tasting jury for “Aires de Brasil”. “La locura de Frank” by Frank Garcia has received the Josep Mª Gotarda trophy for the skill and dexterity and Eric Bataller and his cocktail “Bloody dream” has received the award for the best explanation of the cocktail.
The Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia has had the participation of different hospitality schools in Catalonia, each of them represented by a student and his/her cocktail proposal. In total, nine participants who have started the contest with a cocktail knowledge test to then move on to the demonstration phase, during which they have prepared and explained the cocktails in front of the jury of skill and dexterity. Then, in another room, the tasting jury also valued the cocktails according to different parameters of this area
Finally, the Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia has awarded the best cocktail to the one entitled “Etéreo”, designed and prepared by ESHOB student Ofelia Rosa Otalvano Molina, who has received the “Manuel Villalante” trophy awarded by the EUHT StPOL.
Victor Romero, a student at the Joan Ramon Benaprès School of Hospitality in Sitges, has received the “Special Barman Club” award for his cocktail “DNA Garraf”, the second best ranked in the comptetition.
The trophy of the “Associació Catalana de Sommeliers” for the cocktail with the highest score from the tasting jury went to Nelson Calleja, an EUHT StPOL student, and his cocktail “Aires de Brasil”; while Frank Garcia, from the Valles Oriental Hospitality School has received the “Josep Mª Gotarda” trophy for skill and ability for the “Frank’s madness” cocktail.
The trophy for the best explanation and communication of the cocktail went to “Bloody dream” by Eric Bataller, a student at the Osona School of Hospitality.
The Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia, one of the most veteran cocktails competitions in Catalonia, ended with the delivery of participation diplomas to the finalists and with the group photographs of the winners and jury.
