Young Cocktail Competition of Catalonia

It's one of the oldest cocktail contests in the country in which the prize is given to the Best Young Cocktail-maker in Catalonia. This is an annual event which is participated by students and professionals under the age of 25 residing in Catalonia.

The special nature of the contests lies in two aspects: firstly that no cash prizes are given, and secondly that the aim is to arouse young students’ interest in developing a professional career in the area of restaurant service, which is in great demand from hotel companies and commercial restaurants.

Another note to be stressed about the contest is that each year it brings to our memory two of the great barmen that Catalonia has had by personalising two of the trophies given to the participants. These are the Josep M. Gotarda Trophy for skill and ability, and the Manuel Villalante Trophy for the best score of the Jury.

The Best Presentation Award (Josep Maria Gotarda Trophy) went to David Fibla, from St.Pol HC, for his cocktail “Brisa de Ebro”, while Jan Benito, from E.H. Sitges Joan Ramon Benapràs, received the Best Taste and Flavour Award for “El Ritual”. Second place in the competition went to Xavier Martínez, from Joviat Culinary, with his proposal “Sal y Sol”.

Alfredo Pernía has more than 35 years of experience in luxury hospitality and cocktail-making, becoming one of the most recognized figures in the industry thanks to internationally renowned projects such as Solange Cocktails & Luxury Spirits and Tandem Cocktail Bar.

Founder and CEO of Bespoke Hospitality Art and Bespoke Mixology Art, Pernía combines business management with the creation of innovative concepts for restaurants, bars, and hotels. Throughout his career, he has developed projects focused on excellence, creativity, and high-level team training.

Among his achievements, Solange Cocktails & Luxury Spirits was included in The World’s 100 Best Bars list in 2016, in addition to receiving the award for Best Cocktail Team in Spain. A national finalist in the World Class Competition, Alfredo Pernía has also been a speaker at international hospitality and cocktail conferences and has trained professionals who now lead projects in major cities around the world.
